On the eastern end of Lake Nipissing lies the Northern Ontario city of North Bay. Just over 350km north of Toronto, North Bay is an intersecting point between Trans Canada Highway 11 from Toronto to Winnipeg and Highway 17 from Ottawa to Sault Ste Marie.
North Bay is an access point to the many mining communities dotted along the Ontario-Quebec border. Access by Ontario Northlander bus and train from Toronto or Via Rail train in Sudbury are the easiest ways of getting to North Bay. An airport at the site of the large Canadian Forces Base provides good provincial air links.
