Dartmouth - Nova Scotia

Located on the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour, Dartmouth is a small city on the southern coast of Nova Scotia. Dartmouth officially amalgamated with Halifax in 1996, but this City of Lakes has a very different character from its sister city across the water. Although Dartmouth is much more residential and less picturesque than Nova Scotia’s capital city, visitors can still find something to satisfy almost every interest.

Museums and historic sites are well represented in the Dartmouth area, with the Quaker Whaler House, the World Peace Pavilion, and more. A research centre and an aviation museum are among the city’s unique features, while the citadel overlooking the harbour is an imposing sight. Seaside activities are a major attraction, with Fisherman’s Cove on Dartmouth’s shores and the famous Peggy’s Cove only a short drive away.

Outdoor activities within Dartmouth can please young and old. The Ferry Terminal Park at Alderney Gate, which connects Dartmouth with Halifax, boasts walking trails and facilities for a variety of activities, while the city’s quiet streets and scenic areas can provide a place for activities for the whole family. With museums, waterfront activities, and more, Dartmouth is worth taking the time to visit.
