Portage La Prairie - Manitoba

Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, is located along the Trans-Canada Highway halfway between Winnipeg and Brandon. A small city of about 13 000 people, Portage La Prairie has a wide variety of sights and activities to attract visitors, from a deer and waterfowl sanctuary to a vintage car rally to heritage weekends at the city’s historic Fort La Reine site. Playgrounds and an outdoor water park will attract young visitors, while older guests might prefer to experience the summer and winter festivals or the many other activities available in the city and the regions beyond.

Sports and outdoor activities can fill many hours on a visit to Portage La Prairie; the Southport Aquaplex is fun for the entire family, while the city’s golf courses provide facilities for relaxing afternoons outdoors. Delta Marsh and Island Park are only two of the places where residents and visitors can enjoy nature, and even the spillway is worth a visit. Canada’s longest-running fair, the PortageEx, is an integral part of summer, while heritage days at the Fort La Reine outdoor museum bring Manitoba’s history to life.

Despite its relatively small size, Portage La Prairie has a great deal to offer its visitors, from dancing at the community centre to plays and concerts at the William Glesby Centre. The city’s mall gives the opportunity for intensive shopping, but some visitors may prefer to wander around the many stores scattered throughout Portage La Prairie. With restaurants and hotels, shopping and interesting sights, this small Manitoba city has everything a visitor could want.
